Terms and conditions

Vipers Netball Club is calling for Expressions of Interest from umpires aged 13 years and over to join our umpiring team for the 2026 Winter Season.

Whether you’re brand new to umpiring or an experienced official looking to grow your skills, this is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in netball in a vital and rewarding role. Netball simply cannot be played without umpires, and we are committed to supporting ours every step of the way.

Why Become an Umpire?
Umpiring is a great way to:
- Stay involved in the game
- Build confidence, leadership, and communication skills
- Learn decision-making and conflict management
 - Earn money in a paid role
 - Be part of a supportive and welcoming club environment

This is a paid position, with payment based on your experience level and the games you officiate. If successful, payment details will be discussed with our Umpiring Convenor.

Who Can Apply?
We welcome Expressions of Interest from:
- Anyone turning 13 years of age or older
- Beginners with no experience required
- Experienced umpires wanting to develop further or gain accreditation
Our Umpiring Convenor will allocate games based on experience and confidence level.

Training, Mentoring & Development
No formal accreditation is required to start umpiring. Vipers will support all umpires with development opportunities, including:
- DPNA Beginner Umpire Courses
- Workshops and courses offered through Vipers, DPNA, PRNA, and Netball Australia
 - Ongoing mentoring to support skill development and confidence

If you are already an experienced umpire and would like to expand or upgrade your accreditation, please contact our Umpiring Development Manager so mentoring and testing opportunities can be arranged.

What We Expect From Our Umpires
Vipers umpires are expected to:
- Be prompt and reliable for allocated games
- Be a good communicator on and off the court
 - Know the rules of netball to the best of their ability
 - Work collaboratively with their co-umpire as a team
 - Handle conflict calmly and professionally
 - Be confident, composed, and fair on court
 - Be respectful to players, coaches, spectators, and officials
 - Be willing to ask questions, learn, and accept feedback

We do not expect perfection. What we do expect is a positive attitude, a willingness to improve, and a commitment to learning and developing as an umpire, with the support of our mentors and umpiring team.

Blue Card Requirement
Umpires 18 years of age and over are required to hold a valid Blue Card (Working With Children Check).
A Blue Card is not required for umpires under 18.

Uniform & Equipment Requirements
To umpire for Vipers, you will be required to:
- Wear the official Vipers Umpiring Shirt (worn over your netball dress). This will be allocated to each umpire (paid for by Vipers Netball Club).
Bring the following to each game:
- Whistle
 - Rule book
 - Water bottle
 - Hair tie (used to track centre passes)

Umpiring Opportunities Beyond Vipers
At Vipers Netball Club, we aim to provide our umpires with opportunities that help build confidence, experience, and strong umpiring standards. Where appropriate, we may work collaboratively with other clubs to offer additional umpiring opportunities that support development.

If you are interested in umpiring for another club, or if another club requests the use of our umpires, all enquiries must be directed through our Umpiring Development Manager at:
umpiring@vipersnetball.com.au

From time to time, umpires from other clubs may officiate Vipers games, and similarly our umpires may be invited to officiate for other clubs. In these situations, umpires are expected to represent both Vipers and the host club in a professional manner. Payment arrangements are typically organised by the host club and, in most cases, are made in cash on the day. The Umpiring Development Manager will facilitate and oversee these arrangements.
